Development

The way I see it everyone has their own parenting style and there are many that can be effective. Based on theory I do not believe that their is a certain “parenting style” that will work the best. For the sake of the question being asked, I feel as though the best answer for what type of parents produce the kids who are, “most likely to produce children who grow up to be happy, healthy, and productive members of society.” is the authoritative role. This may be biased, but I was raised on this system and I feel as though it taught me the rights and wrongs and what would happen in the events of both happening. This style of parenting taught me discipline while at the same time allowing me to understand my mistakes without harsh punishment. With this type of parenting it allows for order and experimentation which I feel is needed in the life of kids, but it also allows for a figure to set an example for the kids to follow. With this being said I still feel this type of parenting is determinant on how the parent uses this approach and can still be a very faulty system if it is not performed well.

Does Sleep Affect the Ability of an Individual to Perform Physically?

I believe that sleep will affect the ability of an individual’s ability to perform physical activity based on the fact that your muscles and mind need rest to be able to function at top levels. If one or the other is affected and is not allowed to rest and recover from usage, we as an individual are left at levels that are less than 100%. Not being able to rest our brains may affect the outcome of how we think or how well our brain is able to control our muscles and thinking patterns. I also believe that the lack of sleep will affect ones ability to perform physical activity at their peak performance because of the many sleep studies involving lack of sleep on other areas of everyday life. Many scientist have proven that lack of sleep can lead to many things and I feel as though physical activity can be attributed to this list as well.

First to recruit participants I would have to focus on the sports teams or anyone involved in physical activities around campus. After acquiring participants I would test every participant in a series of test that involve physical activities and the times it took to complete each task after a full rest day of more than 8 hours of sleep. After a series of 5 times I would ask the participants to stay awake for 24 hours and have them monitored to make sure they did not deviate from the path. After the 24 hour sleep deprivation period , I would then have the participants finish the same physical activities again for another 5 times and compare the information gathered. Ideally I would like to be able to have 50-100 people to test to assure the best results. After I conduct these test maybe in the future if the same participants would like to participate again, I could increase how long the test subjects are sleep deprived.

Introduction Post

Hi, my name is Tanner Logsdon. I’m a dual sport athlete at Austin College, and I pan on majoring in history with a minor in education.

The reason I’m taking this class is because I was instructed that it would help further prepare me for my education courses down the line and also help me once I got into the school programs. With a limited background in psychology, (one class in highschool) I am not very rounded in the subject but I plan on discovering the depths in this class.

When I hear the word “Pyschology” my mind runs to thoughts. I feel as though psychology is the study of the way we as humans think and how we act on these thoughts according to different environmental and home life upbringing.

While browsing the Syllabus a few subjects stood out to me. The first involving Concussions, since I’m a dual sport athlete and concussions are very likely in both sports I feel as though learning about the risk and what a concussion is will be helpful. Another topic I am interested in is sleep. I know as a college student sleep is a very valuable and sought after delicacy and I would like to know just how important it is to my everyday life. Lastly the topic of coping with stress. Finding the ins and outs of this topic could help me with one of my hardest things to deal with right now. The three that least interest me are the topics of, stereotypes and discrimination, drugs alcohol and the brain, and neurons. The only reason behind this is because I feel like these topics are worn out in the media and by everyone who isn’t an expert in the subject so I’m sick of hearing opinions by everyone and their mother.

Is psychology something I can go my whole life without learning or would it benefit me to take more classes in the subject?
