Personality Tests

Human Metrics Test

The human metrics test found that I have a ENFJ personality type mean that I was more extraverted, intuitive, feeling and judging. Extra-version means that I enjoy being social and around people and intuitive indicated that I go off of my intuition more than my sense. The test also indicated that I feel things out instead and thinking logically about them, and I have a slight preference of judging things than perceiving them.  The result of this test aren’t explicitly wrong and that the test did a fairly good job of judging many of my personality traits in my opinion. However I do think that I tend to think logically about most things than to just feel them out and let what happens, happen. Also for this test, there was not a lot explanation about how they decided my results and there was no description of what the results mean. So for me, the lack of explanation detracted from the credibility of the test.

This test felt pretty credible and gave me a lot of explanation on the traits. According to the test, I have personality type ISTJ and according to the test, type ISTJ gets stressed out easily and that stress can often feel physically and mentally draining, which is accurate to how I feel when under a lot of stress. ISTJ types also rely heavily on structure and society and when the system is failing them, they feel much stress and become weary, which I feel is also accurate.

Personality-testing.info

This test claimed that I was highly extroverted, but had low emotional stability, I am fairly agreeable and moderately intellectual and conscientious.  I feel good about these results in the sense of how accurate they are, but there was a overall lack of good explanation and description. But I did get a base understanding of the results of the test and I do find them to be mostly accurate.

Color Quiz

This quiz was the most interesting in my opinion because I like to see how our perception of color is influenced by our personality traits. This quiz decided that I was searching for bonds with people who were accepting, kind and made me feel peaceful and safe. That is very accurate, but I also think it is a general feeling that many, many people seek. The test also states that I seek independence and freedom and resist limitations. Once again, I feel like this is common for many people in the world and honestly for me, I think it is not that true in relation to my personality. I often like to have guidelines and limitations in life- academic and beyond.

Personality

After participating in these four test I feel as though my personality actually fits me perfectly. These test all labeled me as caring and very feelings motivated person. They also labeled me as a very outgoing person who isn’t afraid to put myself in new situations. Being an outgoing person has always been my way of presenting myself.

Each test asked virtually the same questions and with me giving the same feedback for each of the questions I feel as though the results should’ve been the same. The test all offered a variety of questions to fill every spot of uncertainty. By going in depth and asking the same questions in multiple ways.

For the credibility of each test, I believe these to be for the most part accurate. Seeing as though all four have given me the same results, I can’t discredit any of the four test. Knowing my mind and knowing what I believe to be true about myself, I feel the test described me perfectly and were very accurate. I believe that all of these test, based on my personal feelings, are accurate and a very good baseline for discovering your own personality based on questions alone. Although they might not be the most accurate ways because there is always a question of how accurately we place ourselves in this situations but, they do provide for a quick relatively close answer.

FIP – Personality (What type are you?)

For this week in Psychology, we were given four (free) online personality tests to complete:

They each had different ways of classifying what “type” of personality you have and what characteristics most likely shape you as a person.  For each test, except the Color Quiz, we had to answer roughly 50 questions about how we acted or reacted in certain situations and even how we viewed our own personality.  It was very interesting to analyze and think about what my answers to these, somewhat deep, questions about myself would be.  At the end of each test, different descriptions of my personality were given to me.  Some of them seemed to be a little vague and could apply to a lot of people.  There were, however, a few that I identified with and related to very well.

I found that the tests which used the Myers-Briggs analysis as a template for their questions, had the best results for me in the end.  These tests seem to be more reliable and I agreed with most of the characteristics I was told I have (I’m a INFP).  This type of analysis of one’s own personality is very interesting to me and I think anyone could benefit by taking one of these tests (unless you tend to overthink & be critical of yourself… but the test would tell you that…).

So, what personality “type” are you?

Personality Tests

Let me begin by saying that I am sometimes a little skeptical about online personality tests because the choices answered are recorded as a bunch of ones and zeroes. I don’t think an algorithm of ones and zeroes, which is used by some personality tests, describes who someone is. Nevertheless, they seem to be pretty accurate for me most of the time so I trust them a little bit. The “Humanmetrics” test had questions without a lot of range in the degree to which that situation or statement relates to you. For me, this limits the validity to their assessment of my personality. Their assessment, however, was the same persoanlity acronym as the second link in the list- ENFP. All 4 of the personality tests described me as an extrovert which I agree with because I like to be around other people than by myself, typically. While I tend to hold back letting people get close to me because I generally do not trust people, I do sympathize with people which the third link described me as. I don’t trust the third link as much as the other links because of its third factor. Its third factor, agreebleness, described me as agreeing with people so I won’t offend them. I disargee with this assessment completely in that I stick to what I believe in, regardless of whether they feel offended by it. The fourth test with colors surprised me with its accuracy. It described me as being extroverted and creative, just like the first three tests, but I didn’t even answer 50-60 questions about myself. The validity of the fourth test is relatively high for me because it had the same results as the other three tests.

First Impression Post- Personality

This week in psychology we are studying personality, so I was assigned to do 4 personality tests and compare them to what I think of myself.

Jung Personality Test: I got INFP (Introvert 6% , Intuitive 3%, Feeling 31% , and Perceiving 9%), which basically means I’m more in the middle of everything except that I feel more than I judge. I feel like this fits me fairly well, because all of these are factored on my mood, like sometimes I want to be around others and sometimes I don’t, as well as the top job was nurse, so for me this test was pretty right. However, I feel like this test could easily be manipulated by the state of mind the person taking it is in, so it’s not a good indicator of personality.

Personality Test Center: Result- ESFJ- At first seeing extroverted bothered me because I’m usually introverted, but after reading the description I realized it fits me perfectly. This is because I like to feel accepted by people, which is a major part of this personality type. Also, the top job for this type is a nurse, which is what I want to do. I still feel like this test could easily be influenced by mood.

Big 5 test: Results- Extroversion~67%, Emotional Stability~ 2%, Agreeableness~ 62%, Conscientiousness~ 62%, Intelligence/Imagination 80%. Again, on this one I thought the extraversion was high, but I might just not see this in myself. Honestly, the rest of this didn’t surprise me, but again state of mind is a big part of this, and we might try to conform our thoughts about ourselves to this idea to make it seem like it worked.

Color Quiz: The long list of results on the color quiz didn’t fit me really because even though I do like to stand out, it’s not for the reasons stated. This test is very inaccurate because even though colors are important, these colors were very muted, and they didn’t really click with me in the first place.

Personality Test Results

The results I got for the Humanmetrics Jung Typology Test revealed my type to be INFJ (Introvert, iNtuitive, Feeling, Judging). These results only indicated slight preferences; for example, I got a 9% preference for introversion over extroversion. Upon obtaining this result, I immediately had to acknowledge the credibility of this test because I obtained the exact same result about 4 years ago when I took it for my sophomore English class. I do agree with this assessment of my personality; I agreed with it even back then. I also agree with the fact that all of my preferences are small, which shows I can be flexible with my personality at certain times. For example, I am an introverted person, but I do not let this influence my relationships with others and I can become extroverted quite easily (usually when I am in a really good mood). People are often surprised if I raise my voice or socialize with everyone in a room. The INFJ type description even stated that we tend to be mistaken for extroverts. I actually agree and acknowledge that my personality fits all aspects of the description. I will often times withdraw myself from others around me, especially the people I am closer to when I am upset, stressed, or physically/emotionally depleted. I have had so many people get upset with me for this, but I personally do not believe getting upset with someone for needing time alone due to  being stressed or emotionally unstable is the right way to handle it. This also supports the idea that only people who have extensive experience with others of this personality type are best at interacting with us. The second “Jungian Personality Type” I obtained was ISFJ. I am not surprised by this, as I was only 6% intuitive on the first test. I would say I am more of a sensor, as I prefer to stick to an exact time schedule and find it hard to look beyond facts. The “Open Source Psychometrics Project” revealed percentile scores of: 33 for extroversion, 16 for emotional stability, 30 for agreeableness, 92 for conscientious, and 46 for intellect/imagination. I was most surprised by the percentiles regarding emotional stability and conscientiousness, as they were quite extreme values. The percentiles were derived by comparing my individual score with the scores of others. It is not so much that I disagree with these two extreme results, but am just surprised by them. It described conscientious people as being more careful and diligent, which describes me pretty well. I am unsure if I am more surprised at the fact I am so much more conscientious and emotionally unstable than so many others or the fact so many others appear to be so unlike myself. I think my strict carefulness and emotional instability stem from past events and learning about what I should and should not do from them. The Color Test was interesting in that it tried to prevent the test-taker’s working memory from storing the first order in which colors were chosen from the second order; basically, it tried to prevent the test-taker from turning the personality test into a memory test. The creators claimed their test to be quite an accurate one, as it is used by doctors and psychologists in facilitating patient diagnoses. They also mentioned the results one obtains from the test are not a conclusive diagnosis and that one should see a doctor or psychiatrist for proper diagnosis. I thought this disclaimer was important and caused the test to not mislead others into assuming the test results are the final say. On the other hand, I thought my personal results were pretty broad and not very useful. For example, the results indicated I appear to be seeking my own identity, along with nurturing relationships and a desire to protect my emotions. I honestly believe this to be the case for the majority of young adults. Even though I was not asked about my age, I still feel this to be the case. The results were pretty accurate in describing my desire to avoid conflict and reduce stress. This particular result actually reinforces the result I obtained from the first personality test with regards to how INFJ types withdraw themselves from others to reduce their own stress.

Week 10 First Impression Post – Personality

Hand writing on a notebook

We all want to know more about our ourselves, and psychological tests are one way to explore our personalities. While the full psychological tests are often long and require a fee to take, there are an abundance of free versions online. Take the four personality tests linked below, discuss how accurately they describe your perception of your personality, and discuss the credibility of each test. Make sure to use the tag “Personality” on your post.

I look forward to seeing what you write!

I’ve Got Personality!

FullSizeRender 7.jpgWe were asked to take four different free personality tests and compare the results to our personal perception of how we present ourselves.

Test One:

This test is a version of the Jung Typology, or MBTI, test where your personality is defi
ned
as four letters. Usually I’m an ENFP, but this test actually scored me an ENTP. According to the website, I would be a deviant kind of creative, overly ambitious in nature, loyal, debate-prone, and… entertaining at the very least. I think this is pretty accurate. At my core, I’m an artistic girl with a penchant for adventure and perverse humor. I take on too many projects, set my sights too high, and it usually ends in an Icarus-type scenario. Also according to the quiz, I should be fond of playing Devil’s advocate, which can be fondly remembered in my middle school self’s habit of “defending” Nazi Germany in world history class debates. Although I obviously didn’t sympathize with Hitler, it was extremely entertaining to go against the crowd in such a way. And, yeah, my friends say I’m an amusing human being.

I’ve seen a lot of these tests in my 18 years, and this one’s pretty standard: a gradient selection which allows you to pick degrees of an answer, a bunch of questions based on self judgement. The site’s also gotten pretty positive reviews from users who claim the results are reliable, and the information page is well researched as this is basically a sample of a for-sale product. I’d trust the credibility of the test.

While I’m not quite as optimistic as ENTPs tend to be, and I do have a strong introvert side, I’d score this quiz a solid 9/10.

Test Two:

The second test is another variation of the MBTI test. However, instead of ENFP or ENTP, I scored an ENTJ. Puzzled, I read the qualities listed and found myself not identifying with many. For instance, it propositions that I’m a very completion-oriented person who needs to be in charge and often grazes over either their own emotions or others. I’d only really agree that I prefer leading–but I’m also one hundred percent fine with following a leader so long as they’re competent… As for the other stuff, no. I am highly empathetic. I have a million projects going at once and have big problems getting anything in on time (lol). A look at my art desk will prove that.

I speculate that part of the reason for the inaccuracies have to do with the format of the quiz. As opposed to Test One, Test Two relied on a binary. You had one of two choices, not allowing for all the options desired. This probably led to the inaccuracy.

3/10.

Test Three:

What an interesting one! I feel as though I’ve taken this test before, but I didn’t have a clue as to what the results would be. This test rated you on a high-to-low scale in five “big” categories supposed to define your personality.

Screen Shot 2016-04-19 at 9.07.40 PM.pngAs you can see, I score high in extroversion, agreeableness, and intellect/imagination. I’d have to approve. In general, I’m an extroverted individual who has a natural disposition for maintaining friendships, and I’m always open to new experiences. The weirder the better, especially if I’ve got a friend by my side. Additionally, my low scorings in emotional stability and conscientiousness didn’t come as a surprise. I’m easily swayed by my moods, and I’m a disorganized mess. Didn’t really learn too much new.

The accuracy of this test probably stems from the gradient answer system which worked for me so well on the first test. It also cites Goldberg in the introduction.

8/10 because it’s kind of bare bones.

Test Four:

Another interesting one. This quiz had me randomly select colored squares based on intuition, wait a few minutes, and then redo the colored square selections. It’s then supposed to figure out your personality. Surprisingly, it was very accurate. It predicted that I’m an emotional, artistic person who lusts after beauty, intimate relationships, and who feels as though there’s more to the world than the present. I’m also prone to feeling isolated, can often be cornered into compromises, and have some difficulty appreciating the small things in life. It was really only erroneous in calling me a conceited person or that I easily become involved in pointless activities.

7/10.

Personality Tests

Humanmetrics Jung Typology Test

ENFP:

Extravert(16%)  INtuitive(12%)  Feeling(16%)  Perceiving(28%)

I have a slight preference of extroversion over introversion which is in some sense true because I don’t see myself as being the quiet one in the room that never says a word, but I wouldn’t consider myself to be a very outgoing loud engaged people person.  it says that ENFP’s are people persons and i can  disagree with that because i get socially awkward or shy around people I dont know. I also have a slight preference of intuition over sensing which i find to be very accurate because I’m usually with it most of the time and not confused about little things. In a workplace it says ENFP’s are creative and friendly which i can agree with as well. As far as the left over information about ENFP’s I say it’s not all of the reasons given are accurate to everyone and that this test really cant determine my personality. There are too many outside variables.

Personality Test:

My jungian  personality test is ENFP.. even though the acronym and classification is the same i personally think this test asked better questions, and the description about the personality seemed more accurate as well. This quote is a very good explanation of  the way ENFP’s are. “Their charming personalities can show signs of irritability and over-sensitivity when their desires to please different people come into conflict. During times of stress, ENFPs feel alienated. They then engage in deceptions that serve to obscure what is occurring within themselves.” I think this is very true about the way i feel when it comes to stress. But when stress grows internally this is not something I would do.. “may attribute malevolent schemes to others in order to explain away their fears.”

Big 5 personality test:

Extroversion (45)- I agree with being outgoing and social, most of the time.:)

Emotional stability(39)-I am opposite of having neuroticism and negative emotionality according to the big 5 I am emotional stable.. which could be argued against because I am not always emotionally stable.

Agreeableness(51)- Friendly, and optimistic. I am very friendly, not all the time optimistic, but I am shy so I’m usually friendly if somebody else starts a conversation first.

Conscientiousness(26)- I guess I am disorganized and impulsive because my impulse decisions are not always the best and I am usually late on things and not very organized.

Intellect/imagination(40)- I am imaginative and very open to new experiences.

I have to argue about the numbers because some are low and some high but I would argue that some need to be lower than others and some higher.

Color quiz:

The results on the color quiz I can agree with 100%. This quiz describes me as independent, striving for what I want even though stubborness is involved. EVEN though I have no idea the accuracy or credibility of this quiz i cant disagree with it because the way it described me in every aspect was on point and sounded like me!

Personality

Jung Typology Test:

For this test, my score was “INFJ”, slightly leaning towards introversion over extraversion, intuition over sensing, feeling over thinking, and judging over perceiving. I believe that in some ways, I seem more extraverted than introverted in some settings, but overall I do believe I am introverted. The rest of the scoring seems pretty accurate with exceptions at various parts of life. The test seems credible because there is no way that I could change my answers to fit a “normal, well-perceived” personality in society. Moreover, the questions are asking the same few questions over and over again with different wording to clearly assess what kind of personality you acquire.

Personality Test (2):

My Jungian personality was “INTJ”. I still believe that the test is credible because I was on the border with all four factors in the previous test. I know that I tend to think clearly about situations as well as follow my heart on some things, which is a clear indicator of why it was slightly leaning towards thinking in this test.

Big Five Personality:

Screen Shot 2016-04-18 at 5.19.57 PM

I believe this test was very accurate on my overall personality. One thing I would slightly disagree with is that I am very open to new experiences, so I’m a little confused why I only got a 40 in the Intellect/Imagination. Other than that, all the other factors are pretty accurate of myself. I believe my extroversion was clearly conveyed in this test, because I have always believed that I am both an introvert, and extrovert. Overall, this test is credible in assessing various parts of personality.

Color Quiz:

The color quiz seemed very unreliable because it is solely based on the order you select colors. I also do not believe that I make “make irrational demands on others and refuse to compromise”. If anything, I’m the absolute opposite of that. The only accurate aspect of the test was my desired objective which stated that “Looking for affectionate, fulfilling, and friendly relationships.” I do not know, however, of anyone who would want a hateful friendship with anyone. All in all, I believe the color quiz was the least reliable of all the personality tests, and the big 5 personality test was the most reliable.
